West Fordham Road Bridge
Gandhi Engineering was hired, on this $26 million project, to design a ramp and elevator system at the West Fordham Road subway station in the Bronx. The scope of the project included inspecting the current bridge, reviewing the bridge load ratings, and assessing the seismic vulnerability of the structure.
Beyond designing the bridge and ramps, a significant portion of this project included building an ADA-conforming elevator to provide pedestrian access to the Metro-North passenger platform beneath the bridge. In addition, Gandhi Engineering resolved issues of conflicting interests between local affected utilities and organizations.
Gandhi Engineering’s exceptional work on this project was recognized by New York Construction News with an Award of Merit for Highways in 1998.
