Third Avenue Bridge over Harlem River

Gandhi Engineering was hired by the New York City Department of Transportation to design and reconstruct the viaduct ramp over the Harlem River. This bridge is a key arterial structure in the region and carries a high volume of traffic between the Bronx and Manhattan.

Our services on this bridge included an in-depth structural inspection, documentation of repairs and deterioration, preparation of repair sketches, and traffic schemes for the duration of the inspection process. We also inspected the river span with barges and using a truck hoist bucket. Finally, we analyzed and prepared the final design for the interior superstructure of the bridge, including designing the orthotropic deck slabs, the Bronx and Manhattan abutments, and the pile-supported foundations for the bridge abutments.

Gandhi Engineering received the Best Bridge Award in 2005 from New York Construction News for our work on this project.
