Mannvit changes its name to COWI and enters a new chapter of growth and expansion across Iceland

09.02.2024

On 12 February, Mannvit will change its name and operate fully under the COWI brand. The rebranding is part of Mannvit's ongoing integration into the COWI organisation, and a natural step in COWI's ambition to grow and expand its services in Iceland.

This next step in the merger between the two companies means that it now becomes easier to take advantage of the potential synergies, allowing for more alignment as well as easier access to COWI's approximately 8,000 specialists around the world. This means that COWI can offer its Icelandic customers a wider range of competencies as well as more manpower to drive their projects from the very first idea to the finalisation of projects.

In the coming years, COWI plans to expand its business and operations in Iceland, focusing on key strengths within infrastructure, industry, environment and renewable energy. This expansion will involve a diverse portfolio, including green fuels initiatives, wind power developments, geothermal energy projects and larger facility undertakings. The ambition is to further enable partnering with Icelandic customers in developing a green energy hub for various industries to co-create solutions.

In connection with the change of name and brand, COWI will launch a campaign in Iceland to attract additional talents to the company as part of the planned expansion in the Icelandic market. The rebranding coincides with the introduction of benefits, such as enhanced rights for employees regarding parental leave. This means that COWI is now the first employer in the engineering sector in Iceland to offer all full-time employees six months of fully paid maternity or parental leave.

Örn Guðmundsson explains the need for additional talents given the projects that lie ahead:

“We are looking into a year with exciting projects ahead, for example, a key role in the construction of The New Hospital in Reykjavík, ongoing work on the Borgarlínan project and various hydropower projects. The ability to service the need for geothermal, hydropower and power transmission projects is of great importance. There is also increased demand for services related to wind power and land-based fish farming, which we are servicing. This means that we want more talents on our team, and in the coming months, you can expect us to advertise externally for new positions,” says Örn Guðmundsson, former CEO of Mannvit, now Senior Vice President of COWI in Iceland.
